What tension should I choose for my racket string?

What tension should I choose for my racket string?

High voltage

high voltage is greater than 25 kilos.

Benefits :

  • Control
  • Precision
  • Resistance

High tension will stiffen the entire tennis string. The ball will deform more on impact and you will gain control and therefore find more precision. Few players know it, but you will also benefit from better resistance! In fact, the strings will move less laterally, causing less friction.

Disadvantages:

  • Lower power
  • Loss of effect
  • No more harmful vibrations

The downside will be less power and less comfort. You will therefore need to be able to generate your own power without sacrificing comfort. This will also cause a loss of spin, because the strings will move less laterally (the snapback effect).

Low voltage

low voltage is less than 22 kilos.

Benefits :

  • Power
  • Comfort
  • Tolerance
  • Taking effect

Low voltage has many advantages as long as you don't go overboard. In fact, you will benefit from greater power thanks to greater flexibility of the string. We often show the example of the trampoline canvas, when it is flexible it will take you much higher in the sky. It will therefore be the same thing with your rope. Comfort will be higher, because you will need less force to accelerate the ball. When you decenter, the ball will go faster and will therefore be more forgiving of centering errors.

Disadvantages:

  • Loss of control
  • Loss of durability

As you will have understood, the gain in power leads to a loss in control and precision. As the movement of the ropes is greater, wear will also be more marked and therefore breakage will be more frequent.
